ISSUE 4
INSIDE THIS ISSUE
Foreword

Blooming flowers and scent of green leaves bring in the freshness of Spring – the busiest season of the year.

This year is particularly so as we prepare for the double cohorts coming in in less than 6 months. While students are busy taking the DSE and A-Level exams, I can imagine teachers and parents just as nervous. You will find the interview with Dr C S Tong, Secretary General of HKEAA useful.

HKUST has taken great strides revamping the undergraduate curriculum and we have expanded the school-based admission system to all four schools – Science, Engineering, Business and Humanities and Social Sciences. Students will take the first year exploring their interests and strengths before deciding on a major program, allowing even greater flexibility. Construction of 2 more student halls on campus providing 700 hall places reaches final phase. It is expected that the additional hall places would meet with the demand of the double cohorts.

This issue of UST LINK showcases our research achievements, versatile programs, exciting campus life and fun learning environment. You will also find President Tony Chan's projection of HKUST@2031 – very creative "but not far-fetched". Happy reading!

Just a note - don't miss out the next issue of LINK with highlights of our new curriculum . Stay tuned.

In the meantime, good luck with the exams.
