In 2015, the University appointed consulting firms to conduct cybersecurity audit for HKUST. The audit put focus on the critical IT assets (like web applications and servers) owned by non-central IT departments / offices. Valuable feedbacks were received. The key recommendations have led to the following:
- Defining the University's Cybersecurity Policy and Governance
- Strengthening the roles and responsibilities of department CyberSecurity Coordinators (CSC) to combat security threats by working closely with central IT departments
- Defiinge minimum security standards for critical IT assets for assurance of security protection
