Data is among the University’s valuable assets and must be protected. HKUST community members who require access to institutional data in support of the University’s teaching, research, administration and outreach missions must comply with the strictest standards of security and confidentiality. Leaking of sensitive data is considered by many institutions to be the most concerned security risk.

ITSC has

• Strengthened our data security policy and guideline by publishing documents like "HKUST Guideline for Risk Classification" and "Acceptable Practices for Handling High Risk Data".
• Adopted a Data encryption standard and leverage on the Microsoft Right Management tools (RMS).
