Wi-Fi Network Upgrade in Student Halls
C.S. Wong
Head of Network Systems

Starting from the summer of 2014, ITSC has been working to improve the Wi-Fi service in our Student Halls by installing in-room Wi-Fi Access Points (AP) in each hostel room. This provided better Wi-Fi coverage, faster and more reliable Wi-Fi connections to hall residents in the upgraded hostel rooms.

There are a total of 13 Student Halls on campus. Five of them have been upgraded to indoor APs in the summers of 2014 - 2016 respectively. At the same time the port speed of wired network connection has a 10-fold speed increase from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps.

Special funding has been approved by the University to speed up the Wi-Fi upgrade schedule for the remaining Student Halls by adopting the same in-room AP approach.
