In an analysis of around 500 departmental, seminar and research websites hosted in ITSC web hosting platform, almost 80% of them are empowered by different kinds of Content Management Systems (CMS). In view of this trend, ITSC started an initiative to study whether a central CMS platform, namely Drupal could be beneficial to the University community, attaining the synergy to standardize a better one and save the effort of maintaining different CMS.

What is Drupal?

Drupal is a widely adopted open-source content management software. It is used to develope many of the websites and applications you use every day. Drupal has great standard features, like easy content authoring, reliable performance, and excellent security features. But what sets it apart from other CMS in the market is its flexibility and modularity. Its tools can help build versatile web sites with structured content providing a dynamic web experience.

How is ITSC bringing the Drupal platform to you?

ITSC has developed the technical infrastructure for deployment of multiple Drupal sites.  We are collaborating with the Publishing Technology Center (PTC) that will be the one-stop-shop for web site design and hosting.

We are also planning to revamp our iHome service to bring Drupal to the individuals’ homepage and are at the last stage of finalizing the service. Stay tuned for the announcement in coming months. If you would like to be an early bird user, you are welcome to contact us at cchelp@ust.hk.
