The establishment of HKUST LED-FPD Technology R&D Center was made possible by a start-up fund of RMB 25 million and 1,800 square meters of space in Nanhai, courtesy of the Nanhai District Government of Foshan City. The support package came complete with infrastructure and lab equipment. This is a significant joint venture between the Nanhai Government and HKUST, part of our efforts of building partnerships with government and industry in the vibrant Pearl River Delta. This state-of-the-art LED-Flat Panel Display Technology R&D Center will ride on the robust LED manufacturing industry in the area. Approximately 50% of the Mainland’s LED packaging comes from Guangdong. With this center, product innovation in quality and significant jump in quantity will likely result from this collaboration. Witnessed by leaders from both parties, including the President, Prof Tony F Chan and a delegation of senior members of the Foshan Government, the Nanhai Government also signs an MOU with HKUST to boost further cooperation.
