by Wong Chi Sing

HKUST is connected to the commodity Internet as well as some national research and education (R&E) networks through the following connections:

  1. a 3.5Gbit/s shared Internet link connected to HARNET (Hong Kong Academic and Research NETwork).  HARNET is a regional network linking up the eight tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, of which HKUST is a member.

  2. a 4Gbit/s connection to HKIX (Hong Kong Internet eXchange) which links up local Internet Service Providers

  3. a 180Mbit/s dedicated Internet link for HKUST

At present, HARNET is connected to the following R&E networks:

  • ASGCNet (Academia Sinica Grid Computing Center)

  • ASNET (Academic Sinica Network)

  • CERNET (China Education and Research Network)
