Campus Fire Safety Ambassadors

Fire is one of the serious hazards that the University needs to face. If fire occurs, the magnitude of damage to life, property and the goodwill of an organization could far outweigh the damage caused by other hazards. It is thus appropriate that the University provides significant resources to reduce the fire risk.

For fire prevention, HSEO plays an active role in working closely with the Fire Services Department of HKSAR (FSD). HSEO arranges in-house fire safety training and joint fire drills with FSD for our students, staff and contractors on a regular basis.

Since the implementation of the Fire Safety Ambassador Scheme in 2002, FSD provides a 1-day Fire Safety Ambassador (FSA) training course to our staff members every year. Course participants are provided with basic fire protection training to enrich their knowledge in fire safety. Up to the end of 2012, a total of 242 staff members from different departments/offices were trained and appointed as Fire Safety Ambassadors. Staff members who appointed as Fire Safety Ambassadors are required to help the head of the department (HOD) and the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) by executing the following fire safety duties:
  • Help to disseminate fire safety messages to stakeholders.

  • Help to promote fire safety awareness among stakeholders.

  • Help to identify fire hazards and report them to the HOD or DSO for remedial action.
The next FSA training is scheduled for 3 October 2013 and an announcement to all staff members had already been sent out by e-mail on 28 August 2013. All colleagues are welcome to attend!
