Achievements of ITSC Student Interns in 2013/14
In collaboration with CSE, ISOM and SAO, we are running an on-campus student internship program for UG students. We have recruited around 60 student interns this year and they will participate, experience and perform in different areas of ITSC operations and development.

The objective of this program is to enrich student’s technical and soft skills including problem solving, leadership, inter-personal and communication skills etc. Students will also gain some real-life working experience with their peers, team leaders, mentors and other ITSC colleagues.

ITSC has identified the following areas for skill development. Every student intern is required to develop satisfactory skills in at least 3 areas in order to complete the internship program.

  • Leadership
  • Service Desk
  • Computer Barn Support
  • Field Service
  • Application Development
  • IT and A/V Support in Teaching Venues
  • A/V Setup for Events
We are pleased to share some of our student interns’ achievements in the past year:
  • Developed a computer barn operation management system to handle the duty roster, consumables inventory, problem logging, etc. The system has been in use by all ITSC student interns

  • Developed several on-line forms (e.g. A/V problem report, software installation request and computer barn booking) to streamline operations and logistics

  • Developed the print queue monitoring system in Barn B to help students find their printouts

  • Developed a Windows application for students to add Barns' print queues as well as satellite printers easily into their own notebook computers

  • Replaced all PCs in Barn C general area and express terminal with a more powerful and smaller size desktop

We will continue to work hand in hand with student interns to serve our users. We are confident that students will enjoy working with us and gain useful real-life working experience during their studies in HKUST.
