In-Room Wi-Fi Access Point
In this past summer the University had scheduled a renovation exercise for UG Hall 1. ITSC had taken this good opportunity to revamp the network in UG Hall 1 with the funding support from SHRLO. The revamp has been completed in mid August with the following improvement:

Wireless Network

In-room 802.11n wireless access point (AP) is installed for each hostel room for improved Wi-Fi signal reception – previously APs were installed along the outside corridors.

Wired Network

Network port speed is upgraded from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps, with a 10-fold increase.

With this upgrade, we expect UG1 hall residents can enjoy an improved network experience with better performance and higher stability especially for wireless connectivity.

Note that this is a pilot attempt to install in-room AP in our hostel environment. Should this approach be confirmed very effective, we will consider extending this to other student halls in stages depending on funding availability.
