Can we re-create history digitally? What if you had over 1,000 years of detailed historical and demographic records of a highly developed city?
Come and hear about it, while enjoying light refreshments, as Mr Michele Petochi describes the EPFL's Venice Time Machine
. This is an international scientific project launched by the EPFL and the University Ca'Foscari of Venice, in partnership with Archivio di Stato in Venice.
The project aims to create a large open access database for research & education from over 80 kilometers of archival documents (digitized, transcribed & indexed) and to use these data to build a multidimensional model of Venice and its evolution. Thus, scholars may illustrate or recreate aspects of the past, from family trees and social connections to physical urban development and change.
