The University recently received generous donations from the Wong Chak Chui Charitable Foundation to boost its education and research development, and to set up the Wong Chak Chui International Enrichment Scholarship, which provides financial support to Business School students to participate in overseas enrichment programs.

In recognition of the Foundation’s support, the University named the lecture theater of the Lee Shau Kee Business Building after the late Mr Wong Chak Chui. A Lecture Theater Naming and Scholarship Program Launching Ceremony was held on 4 March on campus. Among the guests at the ceremony were Mr Richard Wong Chung Tak, the Foundation’s founder; Mrs Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, member of the Executive Council and Legislative Council; Prof Li Lu, Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; as well as HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan and senior management from the University.

President Prof Tony F Chan expressed his wholehearted gratitude to the Foundation for its thoughtful donations. “The new scholarship will help our students, particularly those with financial difficulties to widen their horizons. This is great news for our Business School.”

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mrs Regina Ip remarked that, “the Foundation Mr Richard Wong established in furtherance of his father’s philanthropic spirit has donated to various tertiary institutions to inspire and cultivate young minds. I believe that HKUST would make good use of the new resources and make contributions to society.”

The Foundation also pledged its support to HKUST as host to the 2016 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Hong Kong. The University thanks Mr Roland Wong, son of Mr Richard Wong Chung Tak, for his efforts in organizing the upcoming IMO.
