On Tuesday, March 10, HKUST held its annual Long Service Award Ceremony, honoring faculty and staff members who have served 20 years at the University. A total of 163 faculty and staff members received the award this year.

Officiating at the Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony, President Prof Tony F Chan said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the long-serving faculty and staff members for their dedication and tireless efforts to the University. HKUST is very fortunate to have the faculty and staff members who are highly committed and devoted. The University owes its excellence to these members.”

The award presentation ceremony was held at the SH Ho Sports Hall and President Prof Tony F Chan and other Vice Presidents presented medals to all recipients. Families, friends, and colleagues were all invited to join the celebration and greeted each staff with a big applause.

Among the many who received the award this year was Prof Stephen Nason, Director of World Bachelor in Business and Professor of Business Practice. Reflecting on his time spent in this young institution, he said, “I am really excited about the achievements we have made. We have a group of dedicated and devoted individuals here who are passionate about teaching and research, and that is what makes this University attractive.”

Another long-serving faculty member, Prof Roger Cheng, Associate Provost (Teaching and Learning), shared his thoughts on assuming a more administrative role in recent years. “Though I have less time now to interact with students in class, I am very glad to be the Residence Master of UG Hall IX, which allows me to communicate with the young generation more often and keep my mind fresh.”

HKUST’s Long Service Award was established in 2010 to express appreciation and recognition to long-serving faculty and staff members, whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the University’s rise since it was found 24 years ago.
