HKUST Appoints New Vice-President for Administration and Business

With his extensive experience in finance and administration across the business and education sectors, Mr Mark Hodgson has joined the leadership of HKUST as the new Vice-President for Administration and Business since September 2014. He is set to lead the long-term planning of our campus development to support new initiatives and demand.

Mr Hodgson is responsible for the planning and management of manpower, financial, physical and other resources to support the academic and research activities of the University, as well as strategic development of HKUST’s resources.

Mr Hodgson has over 26 years of experience in senior finance and administrative positions. Prior to joining HKUST, he was Chief Financial Officer at Aston University, UK, covering a range of financial, business, estates and legal functions. He was Vice President Finance and IT for the Global Microbiology Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc from 2004 to 2012.

Prior to that, Mr. Hodgson held a number of senior roles in Unilever for 16 years, including Program Director Financial Shared Services Europe; Finance and IT Director at Unilever Poland; Vice-President Finance at Crosfield Chemicals, USA, a subsidiary of the Unilever group and Corporate roles in the Global Head Office. He also worked at Deloitte and Shell in earlier stages of his luminous career.

President Tony F Chan said, “We are very glad to attract an accomplished executive such as Mr. Hodgson. With his substantial experience in finance and business, and his latest stint in a university setting, he is well-positioned to further HKUST’s causes by leading the administrative and business functions of the University.”

Mr Hodgson holds an Honors Degree (First Class) in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick, UK, and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
