Medical and Dental Services for Students at HKUST
Our warmest welcome to all our new students! 
 
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the medical and dental services available on campus for our students. 
 
The HKUST Health Center
 
The HKUST Health Center consists of three separate facilities, namely the Medical Clinic, Student Dental Clinic and Staff Dental Clinic. The Health Center is situated at LG1, accessible by lift no.4 and the staircase next to the Bank of East Asia on ground floor.
 
 
Student Medical Services
 
Medical services are available to all full-time students at the Medical Clinic. Out-patient consultation with basic medication is free of charge for eligible students. Specialist consultation services are also available at the Medical Clinic on a fee-paying basis. 
 
 
The following specialist consultation services are currently available at the Medical Clinic for a fee of HK$160 for all full-time students:
  • Dermatology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Opthalmology
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Allergy
  • Surgery
  • Ear, Nose & Throat
Physiotherapy is also available for all full-time students for a fee of HK$210 per session (30 minutes).
 
Opening hours of Medical Clinic:
 
Monday - Friday: 9 am - 12:30pm/1:30 pm - 4:45 pm
Saturday: 9 am - 11:45 am
Sunday & Public Holidays: Closed 
 
Students can walk in for general medical consultation service although telephone appointment (2358 6670) is encouraged for minimizing waiting time. Appointment is needed for all specialist consultation services. 
 
Student Dental Services
 
 
Student dental services are provided on a subsidized fee basis. The fee being charged currently is HK$70 per session (about 20 minutes) for covering primary dental services (see below). A fee of HK$10 will also be charged for oral examination. 
 
In order to encourage students to pay attention to personal oral health care, free oral examination service is offered from time to time, especially for new students. Free oral examination service is now being offered to all new students until the end of this year. If you have not had your oral health checked before or have not done so for a long time, please do take this opportunity and make an appointment with the Student Dental Clinic for a free oral examination.
 
The primary dental services being covered by the subsidized fee include:
  • Intra-oral X-rays 
  • Scaling and polishing 
  • Oral hygiene instruction
  • Gum treatment : root planning and sub gingival curettage
  • Amalgam and anterior composite fillings
  • Root canal treatment
  • Dressings and medications
  • Extraction of teeth including wisdom teeth
  • Minor oral surgery - removal of embedded/impacted roots and teeth
  • Incision of abscess
  • Fissure sealant
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Preventive Resin Restoration
  • Emergency consultation
Additional fee will be charged by the service provider for services and materials not covered as indicated above. Discounts have been negotiated with the service provided for additional or secondary dental services. The service provider is required to clearly inform and explain to the student if additional fee is needed. The student is free to decide whether he/she would like to take the additional paid service(s).  
 
Appointment has to be made in person at the counter of the Student Dental Clinic for dental services and a deposit of HK$70 has to be paid for securing the appointment.

Health Education and Advice
 
Students are also welcome to visit or call the Medical and Student Dental Clinics during their opening hours for advice on personal medical or dental health care. Health and dental care education activities such as talks and exhibitions are also organized on campus from time to time.
